Nigerian Military Fights 20 Terrorists Planning To Attack Defence Academy

The personnel of Operation Thunder Strike, a Nigerian Air Force organization, have killed no less than 20 terrorists.

Following a tip that the terrorists planned to target the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, Afaka, security forces started an offensive against them.

According to a report by PR Nigeria, armed men riding over 50 motorcycles were observed approaching towards the military facility on Thursday evening.

In August 2021, militants attacked the Nigerian Defence Academy’s Afaka Barracks in Kaduna State, killing a navy officer.

At the time, the armed men are claimed to have kidnapped two majors and injured several others with gunshot wounds.

The newest attempt on Thursday, however, was halted when gunmen were apprehended after a tip-off on their progress in the broad environs of the military school.

According to reports, Nigerian Air Force helicopter gunships were ordered to engage the offenders who had taken off from Damari Village in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.

Thebandits were spotted in improvised tents with roughly 50 motorcycles.

A part of the report said, “On sighting the aircraft, the bandits started fleeing into the fringes of the forest. This brought about an objective and very decisive rain of hell from above on the miscreants as surviving bandits seen to be scampering for safety from the superior air presence were effectively mopped up.

“Moreso as it is customary, feedback received on Friday after the operation from both the ground forces and local sources, revealed that the bandits were effectively disoriented and suffered a loss of about 20 bandits.

“Also, their plans of harassing and shaming the Nigerian Defence Academy and the Government of the day was effectively thwarted.”
